Home Tutoring

The Hampton Review offers both 1:1 and semi-private home instruction with our instructional personnel for SAT I, ACT, SAT II, and all NYS Regents Exams. Please call our main office @ 631.898-0322 or 631.838.1536 to inquire about how to establish a personal tutoring schedule* at reasonable rates for your child.

*Home tutoring scheduling protocol:

Once you, the parent or legal guardian, have spoken to a representative in our main office about establishing a tutoring schedule for your child, you will be requested to send an electronic mail to Hamptonrev@aol.com, listing your:

• child’s name, grade, address, telephone number, and weekly schedule of availability, including weekends and school “vacation days”.

We generally schedule tutoring sessions from 2:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on weeknights.

Our weekend and school vacation weekday scheduling may include sessions from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Contact time is usually once a week in 1, 1.25, 1.5, or 2 hour sessions.

Total curriculum “package time” varies, and is dependent on the prescribed tutoring syllabus for a given test’s content objectives.

In order to maintain the integrity of our program, and excellent performance outcomes of your child, test-prep curricula will not be compromised. Below is a table of minimum contact time required to successfully meet each test’s content and skill objectives:

College Application Essay Seminar

This seminar is two (2) hours. This seminar is designed to teach students how to prepare the college essay required by most colleges and universities as part of the college admission process. Enrollment for this course takes place during the spring and summer preceding the senior year in high school. The seminar is generally offered in late August and early September. After the seminar, students are also entitled to unlimited tutorials and critiques by our staff via postal or electronic mail at no additional charge! See our rate for this course on the Rates page.

All enrolled SAT I students are entitled to this course as part of their SAT I tuition!

Platinum Pen Writing Seminar: Perfecting SAT I Writing Skills

The Hampton Review realizes the difference between "assigning writing" and "teaching writing". Our award winning instructors are committed to producing effective writers who generate exemplary SAT I written responses that meet the qualitative demands for the coveted score of "12". Convincing command, ordered specificity, and fluent control are the necessary writing skills that produce an honest, authentic voice. Platinum Pen also prepares students for the SAT I multiple choice writing skills component of the exam. Our instructors present the predictable patterns and subtle nuances for these test items that typically cause anxiety among many students who have not internalized the language and technical jargon (dare we say grammar?) of editing and revision.

These seminars are offered during the winter and summer semesters. A semester meets for five (5) sessions, two hours for each session. The Hampton Review College Application Essay Seminar, a separate two-hour course, is included as an additional service with The Platinum Pen Seminar. Please visit our SCHEDULE link for more information about Platinum Pen SAT I writing seminars.

Our Platinum Pen Program is also offered to students who prefer 1:1 tutoring or a semi-private learning environment which usually involves no more than 6 students in a group setting. Please inquire with our office personnel to make arrangements for these alternative educational settings.

Middle School CTY (John Hopkins Center for Talented Youth Summer Institutes) SAT I Preparation

Middle school students who have been selected by their guidance counselors as candidates for this prestigious summer institute must take the SAT I as part of the criteria for acceptance into the CTY program.

The Hampton Review services middle school students privately and semi-privately to help middle school students meet the challenges of the exam.

Courses are also arranged at some of our SAT I sites only for middle school students who are making application to CTY.

Parents should contact our office and inquire about our procedures for this important test prep service.
